Albertia Powell, 69 of Holly Grove, died Monday, January 9 at her home.
Albertia was born October 22, 1947 in Holly Grove, Arkansas to Claude Cartwright Sr. and Eula Stewart-Cartwright. She was the widow of William C. Powell, who preceded her in death in 2005.
“Bert” as Albertia, was lovingly known, was a member of Holy Tabernacle Church in Holly Grove for more than 10 years. She served as the Church’s choir director and as a member of the program committee.
Albertia received her education from the Holly Grove public school system.
Albertia was a former employee of the Dewitt Shoe Factory in Clarendon for more than 15 years. She then went on to work for Farris Fashion in Brinkley for 5 years before she was forced to retire due to ill health.
Her parents, husband, William C. Powell Sr., a brother Claude Cartwright Jr., two sisters: Willie Mae Strong and Claudine Mayo all preceded Albertia in death.
Survivors are: two sons: William (Edna) Powell Jr. of Pensacola, FL; and Charles Powell of Clarendon, AR; two daughters: Patricia Grayson of Benton, AR; Shirley (Parrish) Henderson of Holly Grove, AR; five brothers: Homer Cartwright and Bobby (Alice) Cartwright both of Clarendon, AR; Billy (Rosemary) Cartwright and Marvin (Debra) Cartwright both of Holly Grove, AR; and Parrish Knowles of Chicago, Ill; two sisters: Alice Simmons of Holly Grove, AR; and Bonnie Statewright of Clarendon, AR; Thirteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
